It’s been a frustrating afternoon for the Dallas Cowboys. The San Francisco 49ers are dominating the time of possession and are also easily stopping the Cowboys’ attempts to form some kind of an offensive performance.

There was no doubt that this game was going to get physical. People were talking about it all week before the matchup even began. The Niners are a physical team. The two teams have a ton of playoff history. Dallas has something to prove. But there is a huge difference between physical and dirty.

The Cowboys’ offense has had penalty after penalty in this game. However, the referees in this game, who seem to throw their flags plenty, missed a clear cheap shot in this game. Maybe all of Jerry Jones’ negative comments about refs pissed off the officiating crew?

On a Niners’ offensive possession, Dallas cornerback Trevon Diggs was skating around the field, looking for where to go to make his next move. Out of nowhere, wide receiver Jauan Jennings showed up and viciously knocked Diggs to the ground for no reason. The ball is nowhere near them.

Diggs threw his hands up in frustration, but no flags were thrown. In a game that is already physical, the referees are opening the door for things to get even more chippy.

Seriously, were they too distracted by the play to clock this one, too? As the Cowboys continue to get whistled for ticky-tack blocks, you have to wonder where the priorities lie.

Additionally, if the officials are going to let things slide, they have to let them slide for both teams. Look, many of the Cowboys’ penalties were earned and were the right call. That is on Dallas. But the officiating crew can’t miss blatant cheap shots like that in a playoff game.
