4. Cowboys lose to Minnesota in 2000

This is one of those Wild Card games that isn’t a pleasant memory for Cowboys fans. The loss was significant for many reasons. For starters, it was the final playoff appearance for both Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith. It also marked the end of the Dallas dynasty in the 1990s.

On Jan. 9, 2000, in the Hubert. H. Humphrey Metro Dome, 64,056 fans saw the Cowboys get their butts kicked. All-time NFL greats like Cris Carter, Randy Moss, Aikman, and Smith all played in this matchup.

The Cowboys had an early lead but the Vikings offense took off, led by Randy Moss, who was previously snubbed by one Jerry Jones in the NFL Draft. Moss’ 58-yard touchdown catch from Jeff George marked the start of 24 unanswered points from Minnesota.

Aikman would retire after the next season, and Smith would retire three years after that.
