On Monday morning, an MRI confirmed what Jerry Jones said to be true after the Week 17 loss to the Cardinals: Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup is out for the season with a torn ACL.

This is heartbreaking news for a great player, who also happens to be a free agent in March. It all happened in the Week 17 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals when Gallup went up and made a beautifully acrobatic touchdown grab. After coming down with the ball, the wide receiver quickly grabbed his knee. The medical staff helped him off the field, and he did not return for the rest of the game.

This is the last thing the Cowboys wanted to hear as they head into the postseason. Injuries have plagued this team throughout the year, and Dallas was finally back to a healthy spot. Gallup himself was even out for Weeks 2-9 with an ankle injury before coming back and changing the offense’s ceiling.

Thankfully, players like Cedrick Wilson Jr. not only stepped up in Gallup’s past absence but also stepped up again for his teammate Sunday night. Wilson Jr. will need to continue to shine if the Cowboys want a good chance in the playoffs.

The WR took to social media after the game to tell fans he believes in his teammates and that it’s far from over for him. Here is how members of the Cowboys organization responded to the hard news.

Dallas Cowboys players and personnel respond to Michael Gallup’s season-ending ACL tear

Before the tear was confirmed Monday morning, quarterback Dak Prescott spoke about his teammate in the postgame press conference.

Prescott told the press that Gallup is a great teammate and that he is “sick” about the injury.

Another teammate and fellow wide receiver Amari Cooper also shed light on the Gallup injury situation in the postgame presser.

Cooper actually spoke to Gallup about the play. Apparently, Gallup “felt it pop” before he even caught the ball, yet still made the catch.

That perspective on the situation truly shows how tough Gallup is. Despite the fact that he is a free agent in March, the Cowboys may be wise to keep a guy this well-liked by the organization for 2022.

On Monday morning, after the injury was confirmed, Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones went on 105.3 The Fan and spoke about Gallup. Jones had excellent things to say about Gallup and even mentioned that he hoped the WR would remain in Dallas despite salary cap issues.

The Landry Hat writers are wishing Gallup a speedy recovery. Only time will tell if he will be back in the end zone in a Dallas uniform making more acrobatic plays in 2022.
