After an all-around disappointing loss to the Arizona Cardinals, the 11-5 Dallas Cowboys are headed back East once again to finish the season against an NFC East rival in the 9-7 Philadelphia Eagles. Both teams have already clinched a playoff spot, but a rivalry game is a rivalry game, and we are hoping this Saturday evening primetime game (yes, the game was originally supposed to be played Sunday afternoon, but was rescheduled) will be a good one.

Since both teams already have a spot in the postseason, there are talks about whether or not the organizations should sit their starters to get rest before the playoff push. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told the press on Monday that he wants his players to stay in a rhythm and plans on doing what he needs to do to win this game, implying the starters will play. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said he is unsure what he will do about his starters.

There is a lot up in the air with the game just five days away.

Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles Week 18: Odds

At the time of writing, the Week 18 betting odds on WynnBET have the Cowboys as 7.0-point favorites on the road in Philadelphia. The Cowboys are -290 on the moneyline, while the Eagles are set as the underdog at +230. The over/under for the game is set at 42.0 points.

With the possibility that several starters will be out for this game, both teams combining for more than 42 points may be tough. The only way I see that happening is if Dallas plays all of their starters and they go out and dominate as they did against Washington in Week 16. It may be wise to stay away from the over/under for this week.

Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles Week 18: Prediction & Preview

Like we said above, there is a lot that we don’t know about this game yet. We have no idea who will be playing for either team. And part of that isn’t even related to resting before the postseason. On Monday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero broke the news that the Eagles are having a COVID outbreak. Key players like Fletcher Cox, Jason Kelce, and Dallas Goedert all tested positive after Week 17.

Who knows how many more cases will emerge before Saturday, but that isn’t very good news for Philly. Even if the Cowboys let their starters rest for some of the game, the second-string players should have a fairly easy time if those guys can’t play. But, with the new NFL protocols, those three players may very well be back in the lineup.

It is fairly likely that even if the Cowboys win this game, they won’t have a chance to improve their seeding in the NFC. Unless several teams in the NFC lose and the Cowboys win, they will likely remain at No. 4. But McCarthy isn’t wrong about the Cowboys continuing to find their rhythm. It certainly didn’t look like there was any kind of rhythm at all against the Cardinals on Sunday.

If McCarthy does send his starters out for 60 minutes, this game should be another dominating victory over a struggling NFC East team. And if the Dallas starters can’t dominate a 9-7 team, that will send Cowboys fans into the postseason with a ton of apprehension.

The ‘Boys should use this game to prove that they are worthy of the spot they are in by beating a far-less formidable opponent than they will face in the playoffs. If we see the team we saw in Week 16, we predict somewhere around a 21-10 Cowboys victory. Only time will tell which version of the Cowboys and which players from the Cowboys show up on Saturday night.
