3. Stop calling receiver screen passes

All too often, Dallas has really fallen in love with the WR bubble screen. Unfortunately, these plays are not only failing, but they are also putting the Cowboys in negative positions. Since the Week 11 matchup against Kansas City, the Cowboys have called this play 16 times.

Here are the results of those plays:

-3 yards, 8 yards, 1 yard, 0 yards, 6 yards, 33 yards, 5 yards, 0 yards, 0 yards, 3 yards, 4 yards, 0 yards, 10 yards, 0 yards, 0 yards, 3 yards

While I understand that the Cowboys have three explosive receivers in Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, and Michael Gallup, clearly these plays are putting Dallas behind the chains. Half of these play calls have resulted in less than a one-yard gain. If not for Lamb’s one breakout, the WR screen would be netting Dallas just 2.5 yards per play.

It’s time to retire this play and find other ways to get the ball into the hands of the playmakers on this team.
