The Dallas Cowboys‘ rookie linebacker Micah Parsons was just named the Defensive Rookie of the Month for November Thursday morning. The Offensive Rookie of the Month went to New England Patriots’ quarterback Mac Jones.

While the month of November was quite a somber one for the Cowboys, 22-year-old Parsons was a shining light on the roster with stand-out performances, especially against the Kansas City Chiefs.

This award marks only the fourth time a Cowboy has won Defensive Rookie of the Month. Parsons joins Dexter Coakley (1997), DeMarcus Ware (2015), and Leighton Vander Esch (2018).

The versatile linebacker was honored by the award, taking to Twitter to share his feelings about the distinction.

In November alone, the rookie had 6.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and tied for the second-most sacks in a single month in Cowboys history. His team might have taken some L’s this month, but he was stacking up his stat line for the year and helping his bid for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Parsons wasn’t the only one to provide his input on social media. His alma mater Penn State shared a fun GIF of him on Draft Day to show their support of their former linebacker.

Cowboys’ Micah Parsons is a frontrunner for Defensive Rookie of the Year

Parsons continues to show the Cowboys, and the rest of the NFL, that he can be versatile, impactful, and consistent on the field. In fact, he has played 84% of the team’s defensive snaps so far this year.

Still not bought in on the Micah Parson’s train? Maybe these facts will help:

  • So far this season, Parsons has 67 tackles, nine sacks, and two forced fumbles.
  • Parsons’ pass rush win rate is currently tied for third in the NFL among all positions.
  • Parsons’ nine sacks so far are the most by a Cowboys rookie since sacks became a stat in 1982 – and he still has a couple more regular-season games to go.
  • Parsons has more sacks than any other rookie this year.

If reading isn’t believing and you’d rather see the evidence, you can check out a compilation video of every tackle for loss and sack from Parsons so far below:

At this rate, you’ll hopefully see another post from us in the near future congratulating him on Defensive Rookie of the Year. Until then, you can fully expect Micah Parsons to pile on the tackles and sacks Thursday night in primetime as he and the Cowboys take on the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football at 7:20 CST.
