A road game for the Dallas Cowboys means Ezekiel Elliott should get plenty of rushing attempts against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8.

Two weeks’ worth of preparation should be more than enough time for the Dallas Cowboys to engineer a road win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football in Week 8.

Ironically, though, the 3-3 Vikings are also coming off their own Week 7 bye, too, and have pulled off back-to-back wins over the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers, respectively, in the previous two weeks.

Still, the 5-1 Cowboys should have more than enough an advantage in this prime-time showdown, especially if they stick with their pure strengths.

This means running the ball early and often on the road with running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Dallas Cowboys a slight road underdog to Vikings in Week 8

The oddsmakers over at WynnBET are listing Dallas as a three-point underdog in this bout, although it’s usual for the home team to be given three points anyway, meaning this would be a pick-em contest if it was played at a neutral site.

But if you’re going with the hot hand, the Cowboys should certainly be considered, especially considering the five-game win streak after that frustrating-yet-exciting Week 1 loss way back when to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

As for the Vikings, they’re 2-1 at home this year, but one of those was against the lowly and winless Lions, so make of that what you will.

Dallas Cowboys fans should look at the over/under for Ezekiel Elliott rush yards

Establishing a strong running game is vital for any road team under any circumstance, and Week 8 presents the perfect opportunity for Elliott to go off.

Elliott is already averaging 5.1 yards per carry, which is currently tied for his career-best set back during his rookie season in 2016. On top of that, even with the pairing tandem of him and fellow tailback Tony Pollard, Elliott is still averaging 86.8 rush yards per game this season.

One of WynnBET’s prop bets for this contest that should be intriguing is the over/under for the total number of rush yards Elliott will get at this game, currently set at 73.5 with the moneyline a slight favorite at -112 to the over instead of -110 to the under.

With such a close call, it might be safe to look at Minnesota’s run defense, which is allowing a whopping 4.8 yards per carry this season, 30th in the NFL entering Week 8.

And as far as total rush yards allowed per game, the Vikings are surrendering an average of 128.0, which ranks 26th.

Needless to say, a better might want to lean to the over for Elliott’s total rush yards in this one.

The Cowboys and Vikings kick off on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 8:20 p.m. ET from U.S. Bank Stadium.
