Dallas Cowboys: Breaking down a bit of sunshine heading into Week 2
All the events that transpired between the end of Week 1 and the transition into Week 2 for the Dallas Cowboys have been absolutely wild. From player suspensions, injuries, and players, unfortunately, landing on the COVID-19 list, it’s been a lot to process in just a matter of these past few days.
So much so, that even the latest odds and prediction for the Week 2 matchup between the Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers have them as underdogs yet again. With the odds against them on top of all these latest news, the Cowboys will at least get a bit of sunshine as they continue to prepare for the Chargers.
In an article written by Patrik Walker of CBS Sports, he confirmed that safety Malik Hooker will more than likely make his Cowboys debut on Sunday. Hooker has spent the last four seasons making a name for himself on the Indianapolis Colts before unfortunately tearing his Achilles that put him out of commission in 2020 until this very moment.
Malik Hooker will likely make his debut with the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2
The Cowboys saw the potential in everything he brings to the table and after doing their due diligence this past offseason decided to take a chance on the former 2017 NFL Draft first-round pick. Even though Hooker is on a one-year deal with the Cowboys, their secondary needs all the help it can get.
It’s no secret that Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is a game-changing player that will only get better over time. The Cowboys’ secondary will have their hands full against him, especially as a dual-threat being able to rack up yards on the ground. Hopefully, having Hooker come into the lineup fresh and ready to go, can only help the cause to get the Cowboys their first win of the season.
In his four seasons with the Colts, Hooker totaled 124 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and seven interceptions. If healthy and able to stay healthy throughout the season, Hooker could easily prove to be a difference-maker on defense due to his ability to be a natural ballhawk. Considering that last week the Cowboys got three turnovers against the Buccaneers, bodes well for defensive turnovers in general to be a strength of the team, an area where Hooker excels at.
Hopefully, with Hooker in the mix and a big win on the road, it can help bring some stability to the Cowboys in what has been a whirlwind of a week for America’s Team. If everything falls into place and Hooker can help bolster the Cowboys’ secondary at a time when they need it most, they should be able to be 1-1 once this game is in the books.
