Dallas Cowboys: Breaking down the battle plan against Joey Bosa
Heading into Week 2, the Dallas Cowboys hit the road to face the Los Angeles Chargers. Anytime a Cowboys fan thinks about the Chargers, almost always one name will undoubtedly come up in conversation. Defensive end Joey Bosa, of course. Even more so due to the Cowboys’ offensive line that is already playing musical chairs, will easily be a force to reckon with.
It won’t be easy to contain Bosa and well, owner, president, and general manager Jerry Jones himself confirmed that with offensive tackle La’el Collins serving a five-game suspension, he will go with second-year player Terrance Steele as his replacement. It’s a concerning situation because not many teams have figured out how to contain Bosa over the past six seasons in his young career so far.
In the grand scheme of things, the Cowboys will need all hands on deck to get things going on offense as they did last week. Yes, the Cowboys could have left Week 1 with a close win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but as always in football, it’s any given Sunday. Just like it will be in Week 2 against the Chargers, in order to keep Bosa in check, they’ll need help from running back Ezekiel Elliott in addition to tight ends Dalton Schultz and Blake Jarwin.

Even though many would have loved to have seen Elliott get some more rushing attempts last week, he did a prolific job last week in pass protection. As a matter of fact, he went above and beyond the call of duty in this role as it would make sense for him to once again assume this responsibility in Week 2 against Bosa and the Chargers’ ferocious pass rush.
If the Cowboys can use Elliott and a combination of either Schultz and Jarwin to keep quarterback Dak Prescott upright to do what he does best to help the cause, it’ll hopefully be enough. Yes, Bosa will more than likely still have a productive day at the office but it’s more about limiting his insane disruptive abilities as much as possible so Prescott can be put in a better situation to get the job done.

The Cowboys’ offense will have their hands full with Bosa but, at the end of the day, adding some extra pass protection from their running backs and tight ends is all they can do considering the situation they’re in with their o-line. We’ll have to wait and see how Steele does in starting duties but hopefully, this battle plan against Bosa is enough to leave SoFi Stadium victorious for the Cowboys first win of the season.
