Dallas Cowboys need to give Anthony Brown time to bounce back
All eyes on Sunday will be on the Dallas Cowboys heading into another road game in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers. In a close and thrilling game in Week 1, the Cowboys lost a game in which they had several opportunities to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and leave victorious.
Unfortunately, they fell short when it came to defeating the defending Super Bowl champions and one of those reasons they lost was due to cornerback Anthony Brown. He got absolutely lit up by quarterback Tom Brady and well, many fans are already asking for immediate changes to the Cowboys’ cornerback situation.
At this point in time, it’s only one game into a new season. Yes, Brown, being an NFL veteran of six years, shouldn’t have played that bad but again, it’s just Week 1. We can chalk it up to maybe some season opener jitters or him still needing time to adjust positions. Remember, Brown thrived when playing as a primary slot cornerback but is now in an outside cornerback role. It’s entirely different and only time will tell if he’s able to fully execute in this role.
Anthony Brown will be just fine on the Dallas Cowboys
Of course, it’s going to take some time for him to get further used to this role and even though time is ticking, the Cowboys need to be patient with Brown. In the grand scheme of things, the Cowboys shouldn’t just immediately lose hope with Brown after just one bad game for the time being and see the process through over the next few weeks.
Hopefully, Brown bounces back in Week 2 and proves his worth to do his part to help the cause. Considering how great fellow cornerback Trevon Diggs looked last week, it should only be a matter of time before both defenders start to click on all cylinders as a dynamic duo.
It’s not time to panic for the Cowboys to demote or move on from Brown after just one week of bad football. Brown won’t be an unrestricted free agent until 2023 but the Cowboys can cut him next season without taking too much of a salary cap hit if that’s the route they want to take. At any rate, there is still plenty of time for Brown to readjust, fine-tune his technique through continued practice and coaching this week, and get right back on track on Sunday.
Make no mistake about it, one better believe the Chargers’ offensive gameplay will undoubtedly focus on trying to replicate what the Buccaneers did last week and target Brown early and often. Hopefully, after going over the film of last week’s loss and focusing on the task at hand, Brown will perform better this time around and show that things will be just fine for what he brings to the Cowboys’ defense.
