Unfortunately for the Dallas Cowboys, they got hit with even more unfortunate news after their tough Week 1 loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As originally confirmed by National Insider for the NFL Network and NFL.com, Ian Rapoport, starting offensive tackle La’el Collins has officially been suspended by the NFL.

Collins will be suspended for five games without pay for violating the NFL Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse as this couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Cowboys. Besides losing a close game in Week 1, now they’ll be without an anchor on their offensive line who was one of their best starters.

As the saying goes, when it rains, it pours. Head coach Mike McCarthy will undoubtedly have a plan in place to deal with not being able to start Collins again until Week 7 at the earliest. If anything, Collins will at least be able to use the time to fully heal up from a neck injury he’s been dealing with since training camp.

Rapoport went on to say that to his understanding, Collins was suspended for failure to appear for drug tests that are mandated. If you miss drug tests as it’s presumed Collins did, you’ll get hit hard by the NFL due to failure to comply.

Whatever the case may be, we hope that Collins accepts the suspension and if he needs any help in dealing with the serious nature of substance abuse, that he gets the help that he needs. All reports at the time of publication say it’s due to missing actually taking drug tests for the NFL so hopefully, it’s a lesson learned and he’ll be back on the Cowboys’ starting offensive line as soon as he’s eligible.

Hot. Cowboys need to get Ezekiel Elliott more involved on offense. light

The Cowboys, after a tough 31-29 loss, are looking to rebound in Week 2 with a road game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Hopefully, they can bounce back and get a much-needed win to get right back into the task at hand towards a playoff-contending season.
