With the last pick in the draft, many experts mocked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to take a defensive player. Who the pick would be was a toss-up. Players in the conversation at pick 32 were linebacker Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, defensive end Jayson Oweh of Penn State, and fellow Washington defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike.

General Manager Jason Licht decided to go with Tryon-Shoyinka. He instantly adds depth to an already dominant defense. That same Tampa defense that dominated the offensive line of the Kansas City Cheifs in the Super Bowl.

Preseason Game Study: Tampa Bay vs. Cincinnati, Tampa Bay vs. Houston

When watching Tryon-Shoyinka on film, his first-step quickness is special. In this play, he can swim around the offensive tackle and have a b-line right to the quarterback.

Pairing him as a situational pass rusher with outside linebackers Shaquil Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul create a nightmare matchup for their opponents this season. Another special trait of Tryon-Shoyinka is his ability to finish a play, as he showed in the game against the Houston Texans. He ran all the way around from the right side of the line to strip-sack quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

Cowboys fans should be worried about this matchup for Thursday night, especially since right-guard Zack Martin can’t play. Last season, the Dallas quarterbacks were constantly under pressure without offensive lineman Martin, La’el Collins, and Tyron Smith, so this can spell disaster.

The Tampa Bay first-round pick finished the preseason with seven tackles and three would-be sacks, if not for one being negated by a penalty. He has the capability to wreck the offensive game plan for the Cowboys if he capitalizes on his matchups.
