FanSided NFL Power Rankings: Dallas Cowboys rightfully land at No. 22
Excitement is in the air as the upcoming NFL season is upon us. Soon enough, we’ll all get back to watching our favorite sport several times a week with our family, friends, and hoping to win in our respective fantasy football leagues. The Dallas Cowboys get the privilege of opening up the NFL regular season in a primetime matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It won’t be easy for the Cowboys as it’s a true test to see what kind of identity they’ll have as a team. They’ll be taking on the defending Super Bowl champions and well, a big win in front of a national audience will silence many naysayers as to what the Cowboys can accomplish. On the flip side, a loss won’t necessarily derail the entire season but can temper early expectations for America’s Team.
At any rate, every year right before the new NFL season kicks off, FanSided publishes their NFL Power Rankings as it’s no surprise to see where the Cowboys landed. It’s just about right because one has to factor in what transpired last year and keep realistic expectations as they still have several question marks remaining to be answered this upcoming season.
Dallas Cowboys get ranked at No. 22 in FanSided NFL Power Rankings
In the FanSided 2021 NFL Power Rankings, the Cowboys rightfully ranked at No. 22 which makes a lot of sense. The Cowboys just missed the NFL Playoffs with a 6-10 mark when they had a chance to make it but unfortunately, too many injuries and lack of execution when it mattered most did them in.
It was such a shame to see the Washington Football Team make the NFL Playoffs with a 7-10 record knowing that the Cowboys could have easily been in the postseason if everything fell into place. Heading into the new season, the FanSided 2021 NFL Power Rankings got it right since it will definitely take time for all the new faces and coaches to settle in and start taking care of business.
Remember, the Cowboys’ defense, the biggest area of need from last season, still remains to be seen if they’re ready to bounce back this time around. On paper, yes, they definitely got some nice upgrades at key positions but as always, when the focus shifts to regular season football games that actually count, all that takes time to gel.
Time to adjust as a team that could mean losing some easy football games due to miscommunication, a lack of execution, injuries, and everything else in between. The good news is, on paper, if the Cowboys are able to stay healthy and their key players on offense, defense, and special teams are able to play cohesively as a unit, yes, they are definitely a playoff-contending team.
For now, landing at No. 22 in the FanSided 2021 NFL Power Rankings is just about right since it factors in last season, the pros/cons of this new season, and when compared to other, more established teams, how they stack up. Of course, Cowboys fans have been here before and if America’s Team can come out the gate red hot on Thursday with a statement win over the Buccaneers, anything is truly possible.
