The Dallas Cowboys might be without their starting right tackle in their Week 1 season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Offensive tackle La’el Collins, unfortunately, missed Friday’s practice due to a neck injury he sustained earlier in training camp.

In an article written by the Around the NFL Staff of NFL.com, they confirmed the injury and revealed head coach Mike McCarthy’s plan on how to handle it. McCarthy ultimately is looking at keeping an eye on Collins to see how he heals up before Week 1.

Luckily for the Cowboys, they have two decent backups in Ty Nsekhe and Terence Steele that can step in and do a rotation to hold down the fort in the meantime. That will more than likely be the plan in case Collins can’t play in Week 1. Of course, having a healthy Collins will only bode well for what should be a high-octane offense but in the grand scheme of things, it’s best to not rush him back if he’s not 100 percent ready to go.

La’el Collins should be back soon with the Dallas Cowboys from injury

Considering the Week 1 season opener is only a few days away, means there is a chance that Collins might have to sit depending on how he feels and if he passes medical tests before being cleared. If that’s the case, it would be best for the Cowboys to sit him for at least a week or two tops, and hopefully, in such a situation, he’ll be back to full-time duties without any hiccups.

The Cowboys’ offensive line was one of the biggest areas of need last season as they were inconsistent due to all the injuries that occurred throughout 2020. Collins also missed all of last year due to a hip injury as it’s imperative that the offensive line stays healthy and executes when it matters most for the Cowboys to bounce back this time around.

Collins is a big part of that redemption plan and as of right now, no, it isn’t a time to worry about him and the extent of his neck injury at this point in time. Of course, we’ll see where he stands once the Cowboys finalize their injury list next week but hopefully, he’s on his way to a speedy recovery and return. Hopefully, he’ll be just fine between now and game day as his neck injury isn’t anything too serious based on initial reports out of Friday’s training camp.
