Dallas Cowboys: 1 bold prediction for each positional group
Cornerback
Prediction: Kelvin Joseph will start at some point as a rookie
This might be based more on the lack of talent in front of him or the fact the Cowboys will need better play at the position this year. But we can envision Dallas pressing their 2021 second-round pick, Kentucky cornerback Kelvin Joseph, into a starting role at some point this season.
Now, that could be due to injury like it was for the team’s second-rounder from last year, cornerback Trevon Diggs. Or, it could simply be the case that new defensive coordinator Dan Quinn believes Joseph is ready for a starting role.
In any case, Joseph flashed the skills to be a quality NFL cover man during the preseason but is suffering from what 99% of rookie cornerbacks do, which is struggling to make the leap to the NFL That includes adjusting to the speed of the players at this level and tackling the mental aspects of playing the position in your first season.
Kelvin Joseph clearly has the athletic tools to be a successful NFL cornerback. That’s why many touted him as possessing first-round level talent. And we believe he’ll gain enough of the rest at some point this season to find himself starting for America’s Team as a rookie.
