Jourdan Lewis, CB

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis name appearing on this list might shock some but he has been an afterthought during training camp. He has taken a back seat to stories regarding these two rookie cornerbacks Dallas currently employs.

His name has not been buried when just compared to rookies as cornerback Maurice Canady has made it more than clear with his play that he should be the first veteran option off the bench moving forward instead of Lewis.

That is probably not what the Dallas Cowboys brass might have wanted when they signed him to a three-year $13.5 million deal this offseason with $7.75 million in guarantees but only $4.75 million was guaranteed at signing.

Cutting Lewis now would leave the team with just under a $2.5 million cap hit and nets the team around $200 thousand in cap savings. Not ideal yet not impossible.

Lewis is interesting as I think he can still contribute yet there are some who would rather see him on another football team.

Trading Lewis is an interesting option as it would reduce the cap hit and increase the cap space if the Dallas Cowboys can pull this off. If the team can hypothetically find a trading partner, the Dallas Cowboys would only take around a $1.1 million dollar cap hit while opening up $1.4 million in cap space.

It is no secret that Lewis doesn’t fit the prototypical size standards Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn likes in his players so moving on from Lewis isn’t as far-fetched as some might think.

I personally would try and find a spot for Lewis but he is on my list for players who could be dealt before the deadline.
