Benny Snell, RB – Pittsburgh Steelers

The Cowboys could very well opt to go with only two running backs on their active roster to kick off the 2021 NFL regular season. Those players would obviously be Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard. That after third-string running back Rico Dowdle and fullback Sewo Olonilua landed on Injured Reserve this month.

But if the team is looking to add another running back to the mix, there should be a plethora of names to choose from. But perhaps the one with the most upside is 23-year old Benny Snell of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The third-year running back out of Kentucky exploded for 113 rushing yards on 19 carries in a win over the New York Giants last season in Week One. Snell has started a total of five games for the Steelers since being a fourth-round selection in 2019.

Snell has recorded a total of 794 rushing yards and six touchdowns over his first two NFL seasons. And he’s played a significant role on special teams in Pittsburgh to boot.

According to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com, the Steelers may decide to part ways with Snell soon after using their first-round draft pick on Alabama running back Najee Harris. If so, this could be an opportunity for the Cowboys to not only upgrade the depth at a position recently damaged by injuries, but they could also add another key contributor to their special teams unit.
