Are the Cowboys soft in the middle?

Last season, the Cowboys’ defense put up a historically bad performance. And one of their main issues came from a misstep in free agency. Dallas signed defensive tackles Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe to strengthen the middle of their soft defensive line last offseason.

Unfortunately, McCoy suffered a season-ending quad injury in training camp. And Poe was a shell of his former Pro Bowl self leading to his release midseason.

Well, it’s a new season and the Cowboys have a new defensive coordinator in Dan Quinn. And he’s brought in a slew of new faces to man the interior of the team’s defensive line. That includes free agents Brent Urban and Carlos Watkins plus rookies Quinton Bohanna and Osa Odighizuwa.

Combined with existing defensive tackles Neville Gallimore and Justin Hamilton, we are desperately wanting someone from this group to emerge Friday as a real difference-maker that we can pin our hopes on heading into the regular season.
