Dallas Cowboys: Is it crazy to consider keeping Michael Gallup?
If Gallup leaves the Dallas Cowboys, it may not be the same or it might, but the risk is high.
If Gallup leaves, he doesn’t play with the same guys from a consistency and talent-around him standpoint, which could highlight some things that aren’t so great. It could also drop his value down moving forward because of that.
Now, there’s a chance he could go on to continue blossoming, regardless, no matter where he’s playing or who he’s around, but that hasn’t happened to the point in Dallas yet where they wouldn’t draft CeeDee Lamb or trade Lamb after drafting him on draft night. With the Cowboys, he continues to do what he does well and shine in that.
There is the risky route, which is the betting on yourself and leaving. That could totally blossom or blow.
There is the safe route, which is never betting on yourself and taking what a team offers you, something no professional athlete tends to ever do, limiting their value in the process.
Then theirs this unique route afforded to Gallup, if he takes it. He can get paid close or right at what he’s worth in Dallas, continue to increase or maintain his value and count on doing that again, or for a higher number after that pact is done.
There is always risk of injury in sports and especially in the NFL, so there is that consideration, but the unique path seems the most appropriate for Gallup. It allows him the most control over his destiny, while also maximizing his value and literal earning opportunity.
If they were going to trade him, last season would have been the year to do so with this year of control left for the receiving team. Because they didn’t and that year is no longer completely there, the value just isn’t there for Dallas to make a deal.
They’d be shooting themselves in the foot, practically. Even if the plan isn’t to keep him, getting the most out of him this season is likely worth more there than what would be offered in a trade.
Yea. That low, probably.
That’s the cherry on top of why this is the question. Is it such a wild and crazy idea to just … try and keep Michael Gallup?
