Michael Gallup is the Dallas Cowboys’ number three guy, kind of, but so what. He can still be paid well for that.

With that, it has been heavily assumed and estimated that Michael Gallup be gone after or during the year, via trade or free agency, of course. How about another option?

Why can’t they just hold on to him? Salary, right?

Indeed, that is a concern, but who’s to say that he necessarily prices himself out of the Cowboys’ range? While it’s certainly within his right to get paid, he’ll probably want to, and should look to do so, who’s to say they can’t work out something that works for both sides?

There are a few reasons to want to and from both perspectives. The Cowboys have something that works on offense and with the money already invested into the things around him, they may as well keep the band together.

They’ve begun to build the defense through the draft and have traditionally done so with the offensive front too, so while there may be some money-moves on the open market to make intermediately, they can continue to focus those efforts there.

On Gallup’s side, it gets even more interesting. He’s a definite number two guy, who still has the potential to become a number one. That isn’t likely though and though looking like a number three in Dallas currently, he’d be widely recognized as a number two-B or higher if he stays.
