3 Dallas Cowboys candidates to switch positions if needed

The Dallas Cowboys have been a team that has traditionally favored players with position flex. This normally means offensive lineman who can play multiple positions along the O-Line or defensive lineman who can move inside out.

But there have been some extreme cases of position flex in Dallas as well. The most recent example might be when former strong safety Jeff Heath served as the team’s emergency kicker back in 2017.

According to NFL.com, Heath connected on two of his three extra-point attempts against the San Francisco 49ers when filling in for injured kicker Dan Bailey. And he was the first non-kicker to do so in nearly 40 years.

While what Heath did was rare, world-class athletes being able to fill multiple roles in the NFL isn’t. In fact, just this season, the Cowboys shifted safety Keanu Neal to linebacker. Here are three other current Cowboys we believe could also switch positions if needed.

Tony Pollard, RB to WR

During his time in Memphis, Tony Pollard was a jack of all trades as a running back, receiver, and special teams returner. His speed, quickness, and ability to catch the football could make him a terrific slot receiver. In fact, the Cowboys practiced with Pollard playing at receiver during OTAs earlier this year. And head coach Mike McCarthy even commented that he “looked very natural” doing so.
