Cowboys second-year star chosen as potential Pro Bowler
The Dallas Cowboys will enter training camp this month with one of the most talented offenses in the NFL. And all eyes will be on quarterback Dak Prescott.
Entering his sixth season under center for America’s Team, Prescott is coming off a season-ending ankle injury that limited him to just five games in 2020 and required two surgeries to correct.
While Prescott’s recovery will undoubtedly be the biggest storyline to follow this summer, the impressive supporting cast around him should reap the most rewards because of his return. Especially, his ubertalented wide receiver corps.
Perhaps the most talented group of receivers in the entire NFL, the starting trio of Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb could all conceivably register 1,000 receiving yards each if Prescott continues the trend he displayed during his first five games last season. And that could result in one of them getting their first Pro Bowl nomination.
Here’s what Around the NFL Writer Marc Sessler wrote recently on NFL.com about Lamb after chosen him as the one potential first-time Pro Bowler from the entire Cowboys’ roster in 2021.
"“Before Dak Prescott was lost to a grisly ankle injury in Week 5, Lamb averaged 5.8 receptions for 86.6 receiving yards per game. That chemistry hints at a big campaign from the second-year wideout, even with Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup competing for targets.”"
Despite only having Prescott under center for those five contests, Lamb was still able to post impressive numbers as a rookie. He recorded 74 receptions for 935 yards and five touchdowns.
According to Pro Football Focus, Lamb had the single best performance of any rookie slot receiver they’ve ever seen. At least since the football analytic site started tracking data back in 2006. His 69 receptions for 877 yards out of the slot ranked the 22-year old first in both categories per PFF.
Lamb was able to obtain these numbers despite having to play with four different quarterbacks under center, coming off a stunted offseason due to a worldwide pandemic, and essentially being the third wide receiver on the depth chart (although he did have the second-most targets on the team).
Chosen in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys despite the team already having a solid wide receiver corps, CeeDee Lamb shined bright as a rookie despite facing several obstacles. With a healthy Dak Prescott under center and a full offseason training program under his belt, the sky is the limit for the talented wideout entering his sophomore season in Dallas.
