Dak Prescott predicts breakout season for this teammate

The eyes of Texas are upon you, Dak Prescott. More precisely, your right leg. That after the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys suffered a devastating leg injury last October, a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle, that required two surgeries to correct.

While Prescott told the press he’s buried the injury mentally, it’s undoubtedly one of the top storylines entering the 2021 NFL regular season. But it’s also a storyline that will bury itself with every passing game that Dak performs at a high level.

Entering his sixth season under center in Dallas, Prescott is now at the helm of one of the league’s top offenses. And that’s due in large part to a wide receiver corps that includes Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and 2020 first-round selection and budding superstar, CeeDee Lamb.

In fact, here’s what Prescott said recently about Lamb heading into his second season in Dallas according to The Athletic’s Jon Matchoa via Twitter …

"“My expectations are super high. … Throwing it to [Lamb] and watching him get off the line, run routes, go up and get contested balls time and time again. It’s exciting. …He’ll be big time and definitely have a breakout season.”"

Despite only having Prescott under center for less than five full games. Lamb was still able to put up impressive numbers despite the abundance of receiver talent surrounding him in Dallas. The recently-turned 22-year old posted 74 receptions for 935 yards and seven total touchdowns. One of those scores coming off a rushing attempt and another off a kick return.

With Prescott under center to start last season, the Cowboys’ offense seemed destined to break NFL offensive records. He threw for 1,856 passing yards and had nine touchdowns through the air and three more on the ground in only five games played. At that pace, Prescott would be threatening the all-time record for passing yards in a single season, 5,477, which was set by Hall of Fame passer Peyton Manning back in 2013.

Lamb has apparently been putting on a show during OTAs and minicamp this offseason. And fans who saw his flashes of potential and unique playmaking ability during his rookie campaign are likely not at all surprised.

If Dak Prescott can pick up where he left off before the ankle injury, there will be plenty of opportunities for CeeDee Lamb and the various other offensive weapons in Dallas to put up breakout numbers for the Cowboys in 2021.
