123. . . . Joe Looney. 5. player

I have been a big fan of presumed Dallas Cowboys starting center Tyler Biadisz but the team looks thin at center. I happen to be a big fan of Joe Looney. I won’t forget the kindness he showed to both of my sons in 2019 at training camp in Oxnard, California so I might be a little biased here but the need is real.

Looney did a terrific job standing in for an injured Travis Frederick and I think he still has tremendous value as a backup interior lineman in this league.

My only wonder with Looney is why the team hasn’t brought him back? Is he better than Biadisz and the team doesn’t want to create a center controversy or is Looney done as a player?

I took to film study and I saw a player who can still make all the necessary blocks and calls that are needed in this league.

I really believe that Looney is an above-average starting center and an outstanding depth piece if the Cowboys bring him back as insurance to Biadasz. Looney has the ability to come in the game for an injured player and the offensive line won’t miss much of a beat.

Looney obviously can still handle all of the line calls but he has gotten better in his career handling zero techniques so odd fronts aren’t an issue anymore for him.

Looney will always be that goofy character that brings life into a serious business which is sometimes needed. I also think that enjoying the sport you play while also competing at a high level is not really work. This rings true especially if you love it and it appears as if Looney still enjoys the game.

This move has to be a new coach-led decision for some weird reason as I cannot find any reason why Joe Looney isn’t currently employed by the Dallas Cowboys.

I do wonder with all of these young players if the team is preparing to win now but is also on the verge of a veteran purge. Long, fast, and attitude seem to be the flavor of the year and I hope the team doesn’t get into a situation where a backup center in Dallas is a national headline.
