Jaycee Horn shot up draft boards due to a perfect storm. The first presumed favorite cornerback, Caleb Farley, had back surgery which combined with Horn’s abrasive style vaulted him into the spotlight where anything can happen.
The only issue with that is Horn deserved to be in the conversation as the best cornerback from the start.
Horn reminds me of Jalen Ramsey which is more than likely his ceiling. I also think he might be the biggest boom or bust cornerback prospect which does frighten me a bit. Long and active, Pro Football Focus credited Horn with 27.4 coverage snaps in between catches which were the best in college football.
The mental warfare Horn deploys on his opponents is aimed at getting into his enemies’ heads during the game. As effective as that is, Horn still does have some things to work on when he gets into the league.
He is a tick late to recognize plays when he is in zone coverage. As great as he is in man coverage, he loses a bit of confidence when he plays zone. His diagnosis of plays has to improve in this area if he wants to become a more well-rounded player.
Horn also gets so excited that his hand checking becomes an issue downfield. He has been known to be a little grabby and tends to get flagged that extends drives.
Drafting an SEC cornerback who has tons of experience going up against some of the best college football has to offer and doing it well will get this prospect drafted early on day one.
The Dallas Cowboys drafting Horn gives the team two high-end cornerbacks with the ability to instantly change the dynamic of the team. Horn and Diggs are both vocal players and will no doubt feed off the energy they provide for each other.
Fun, young, talented, and abrasive are the first terms that come to mind when thinking about Horn in Dallas.
