3. What does safety have to do with it?

Sadly, the Dallas Cowboys will not prioritize the safety positions in the 2021 NFL Draft. So for those hopeful of drafting safety Trevon Moehrig out of TCU, don’t hold your breath.

Count me in as a Moehrig hopeful as well. But I will double down on the Cowboys going defense with their first pick. If Big D goes defense first, I don’t see Jones and company drafting another defensive back two shots in a row. No way.

One can be hopeful though, right? Sure. It doesn’t cost you or myself a single dime. Might as well throw a coin or two into a wishing fountain and see what happens.

The real world

Honestly, I can see Moehrig jumping out of the draft in the later spots of the first round. So by the time Dallas rolls around with the 44th overall pick in the second round, the safety will be long gone.

Now, if Moehrig slips into the second round, will Dallas make it a point to pick up the phone to possibly jump up to take him? One can hope. But once again, the cost might scare the ‘Boys away from this movie.

Trading down from number 44 is more likely

Could you imagine waking up in September to realize that the Dallas Cowboys somehow grabbed both Surtain and Moehrig in one swoop? I doubt it. But one can dream.

It’s more likely that if Dallas doesn’t stay put with the 44th overall pick, they’ll trade down and not up. Even if Moehrig slips a bit, I just don’t think the Cowboys have him on their true radar.
