Here I go again: The Dallas Cowboys grab Patrick Surtain II with the 10th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. No, the Cowboys didn’t go with the razzle and dazzle here of trading up.

Surtain is the right pick here. The Cowboys add some power in the cornerback’s room, pairing rookie Surtain with fellow cornerback Trevon Diggs. With Chidobe Awuzie joining the Bengals, America’s Team addresses the loss with supreme talent.

First impressions?

There is everything to like here. The Dallas Cowboys recommit their resources to the defense. If Big D goes offense with the first pick, I’d like to see that card go to an offensive lineman.

In this mock draft, Penei Sewell (OT) went eighth overall to the Panthers. I debated on taking Rashawn Slater (OT) but ultimately stuck to my guns with Surtain. Slater floated down to the 18th spot where the Miami Dolphins scooped him up.

How did we get Surtain?

Let’s take a look at how the first 12 picks went…

1 QB Trevor Lawrence – Jacksonville Jaguars
2 QB Zach Wilson – New York Jets
3 QB Trey Lance – San Francisco 49ers
4 QB Justin Fields – Atlanta Falcons
5 WR DeVonta Smith – Cincinnati Bengals
6 TE Kyle Pitts – Miami Dolphins
7 WR Ja’Marr Chase – Detroit Lions
8 OT Penei Sewell – Carolina Panthers
9 S Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah – Denver Broncos
10 CB Patrick Surtain II – Dallas Cowboys ***
11 EDGE Kwity Paye – New York Giants
12 WR Jaylen Waddle – Philadelphia Eagles

Back to Big D?

Patrick Surtain II played three seasons for Alabama. He collected 111 tackles, 25 pass deflections, four forced fumbles, and four interceptions.

The Dallas Cowboys add muscle to their defense with Surtain. The cornerback is a great pick with long-term upside, which can only spell good things for the organization.
