Nose Tackle. Dallas Cowboys. Tyler Shelvin. 75. player. 123.

Mammoth defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin is the kind of player teams are excited for but only generates a blip on the fans’ radar. Shelvin is listed at six-foot-two with some change and a svelte 350 pounds.

Shelvin did receive some first-round attention prior to the pandemic but showed that conditioning will be an issue at the next level. Do not be discouraged as a poorly conditioned Shelvin was still almost impossible to move as a traditional two-gap nose guard.

So why would he be available in the third round you may ask? The reality is the guy is limited to that two-down role. Everyone else’s issue with Shelvin turns into Dallas Cowboys gold as that is exactly what the team needs. Shelvin won’t generate much of a  pass rush but his frame alone could help the Cowboys run defense.

What is even better is that the team can monitor him as much as he needs and would be the first home grow nose guard the team has invested in for quite some time. The front office loves versatility but sometimes a specialist in a controlled environment can be extremely useful when deployed correctly.
