With both starting cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis set to become free agents next month, the onus is on Trevon Diggs to become the team’s number one option in 2021.

The 2020 second-rounder out of Alabama was pressed into action early as a rookie due to injuries. And while the 22-year old often played like a first-year corner, he also flashed greatness.

Leading the Cowboys with three interceptions as an 11-game starter, Diggs demonstrated his ability to be a ballhawk, something former number one corner Byron Jones didn’t possess.

Although all three of his picks came against the Philadephia Eagles, two by way of struggling quarterback Carson Wentz in Week Eight. Diggs recorded 58 tackles, 14 pass defends, 1.0 sack, a forced fumble, and those three interceptions over 12 games in his first season in Dallas.

Rookie cornerbacks also have a notorious reputation for struggling to catch up to the speed of the NFL in their first season. For the Dallas Cowboys’ defense to rebound in 2021, Trevon Diggs must find his stride in Year Two.
