Dallas Cowboys: 3 surprises of the three-game winning streak
The Dallas Cowboys are in the midst of a three-game winning streak
If this year can be summed up in one sentence for fans of America’s Team, it’s this: The Dallas Cowboys possess a disappointing 6-9 record going into the final week of the NFL regular season … and they can still make the playoffs. That’s 2020 in a nutshell.
While there will be a 10-win team in the AFC that will not make the postseason, a team with a 7-9 record will win the NFC East and be playoff-bound. And if Dallas can defeat the 5-10 New York Giants and the 4-10-1 Philadelphia Eagles beat the 6-9 Washington Football Team next Sunday, then the Cowboys will win the division and earn themselves that postseason berth.
If Dallas is able to pull this miracle off, it will be the biggest surprise of them all. But what has led to this opportunity is a three-game winning streak that seemingly came out of nowhere. Suddenly, a team devastated by injuries and struggling under a first-year coaching staff has found their sea legs.
The Cowboys’ offense hasn’t been the same since Week Five after starting quarterback Dak Prescott was lost for the season due to a severe ankle injury. During that initial five-game run with Prescott under center, Dallas averaged 32.6 points per game.
That average dropped to just 15.0 points per contest before their recent winning streak. In the past three games, that average has risen again to a whopping 36.0 points a contest.
The Cowboys defense has improved as well over this three-game run as they’ve allowed just 19.0 points per game to opposing offenses. That’s far better than the embarrassing 32.8 points per contest average allowed in the previous 12 games this season.
So what have been the biggest surprises during the Cowboys’ three-game winning streak? Here are our three top choices …
