Dontari Poe, DT

Defensive Tackle Dontari Poe has not been a wise investment for the Dallas Cowboys. The intent was to have him plug the middle of the defense and is, in my opinion, no longer has the ability to do any interior work. Film work shows him as consistently being the last man off the line at the snap has been pushed into the linebackers creating more defensive problems.

Cutting Poe would leave a $3.5 million dollar hole for this front office with almost half a million dollars in savings. Smart business would be to release him after the season as it would save $4 million in cap space with less than a million dollars in dead money.

Front offices hate to admit their mistakes and the Dallas Cowboys front office looks to be particularly stubborn when it comes to keeping players they invested their money on. That makes Poe a person that will more than likely be cut at the end of the year but likely to stick around all season.

The bottom line is besides Crawford, it looks like this Dallas Cowboys defense will remain intact with an outside chance of any street free agents coming in to help. The best hope for this defense is going to be getting injured players back healthy and scheme adjustments. Ladies and gentlemen, your 2020 defense is here to stay.
