Can’t tell you why the Cowboys are losing, but it’s not on Dak Prescott
The Dallas Cowboys couldn’t get it done on Sunday. They won’t if they continue to let runners go wild.
That isn’t even the crux of it all though. While the first game of the season against the Rams was more of a three yards and a cloud of dust thing where they just couldn’t make the right plays at the right time, the Cleveland Browns simply rushed it right down Dallas’ throat… and all with their top rusher out of the game.
There were guys out there going all Gale Sayers on the Cowboys defense that had been fishing for Mahi-Mahi at this time last year (looking at you D’Ernest Johnson and applause, that was some tough running). And when Captain Gordon wasn’t making the defense look bad, he let Kareem Hunt and the fourth-string running back have a taste of the action.
The Cowboys got manhandled yesterday for two and two/thirds quarters. Then they finally decided to show up.
They made a few big stops, they scored fast a few times, and they were within three points and setting up for another all too close but dynamic finish. And then… it happened.
Odell Beckham Jr. proceeds to take a 50 or near 50-yard wideout reverse run on a house call. It was all but over.
Aldon Smith had done his job, getting there to force pressure and change the dynamic of the play. While you would have loved for him to make the play, he had already busted it up and it was up to the other 10 guys out there to help him by simply making the easy tackle.
He had snuffed it out and showed the defense where to go. They simply could not get there.
All in all, it comes down to this. The team has to be better about who they are.
