The Dallas Cowboys had a disappointing first quarter of the season. This next quarter will be crucial for the team.

Despite the Dallas Cowboys’ struggles thus far this season the team is well within reach of the top of the NFC East. The team is currently tied for second place with the Washington Football Team at 1-3 with the Philadelphia Eagles sitting atop the division at 1-2-1.

The Cowboys’ first quarter of the season featured tough matchups with the Russell Wilson led Seattle Seahawks and the seemingly new and improved Cleveland Browns. The team also found itself losing (mostly) close games. Two of their three losses thus far were within a score.

That fact will not bring much comfort to disillusioned fans who were hoping for a better start to the season. However, it does show that the organization has the potential to compete against good teams. Fortunately, for fans of America’s Team the second quarter of their schedule will not require them to even do that.

The team will face off against four teams with a combined record of 4-11-1. This should provide them with an opportunity to get their season back on track.

Dallas will kick-off the next quarter of their season with a matchup against the struggling New York Giants. The Giants are one of only three teams in the NFL who will head into week five without a win under their belt. If Dallas loses this game they might as well pack up their postseason hopes.

Next, they will have to play against the 2-2 Arizona Cardinals. After starting the season 2-0, which included an upset victory against the reigning NFC Champion San Fransisco 49ers (before they got decimated by injuries), the Cardinals have lost two straight games against less than stellar opponents.

Despite the potential of Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and his shiny new target, this should be a winnable game for the Cowboys at home. Arizona currently ranks in the bottom half of the NFL in points per game with 24.5 points per contest and they are tied for the ninth-most turnovers with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Las Vegas Raiders with six.

The team will close out the first half of its season with matchups against the Washington Football Team and the Philadelphia Eagles on the road. Like Dallas, these teams also have only managed to win one game thus far. However, the Eagles also managed to tie with the Cincinnati Bengals which is why they are currently leading the NFC East.

Division matchups, even against struggling teams, can be tough. However, these matchups are also crucial as they could provide the winners with a way to break ties at the end of the year. These games will give the organization an opportunity to not only leapfrog to the top of their division but also to regain their confidence.

The Dallas Cowboys had an undeniably dreadful start to their season. This next stretch of games will give the team an opportunity to right the ship and potentially regain their confidence for the rest of the season. However, if Dallas cannot find a way to beat these opponents it will be a long and painful second half of the season for fans of America’s Team.
