Cowboys lose to Browns: Dallas can’t count on miracles
By Connor Green
The Dallas Cowboys needed a miracle to beat the Cleveland Browns this past Sunday. They did not get it.
The Dallas Cowboys fall to 1-3 on the season after their attempted comeback was shattered by Cleveland Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham finished the game with three total touchdowns.
Heading into the fourth quarter of the Cowboys’ Week Four matchup against the Browns, America’s Team trailed by four scores. Less than twelve minutes later the team had come within three points of a tie. It was then that the Dallas defense let their fans down once again by letting Beckham score a 50-yard rushing touchdown to quash the team’s momentum.
Quarterback Dak Prescott once again turned in a commendable performance. He finished the game with over 500 passing yards and four passing touchdowns.
Miracles rarely happen in professional football. However, that term is the only way one could reasonably describe Dallas’s come-from-behind victory against the Atlanta Falcons in Week Two.
Dallas was fortunate enough to be granted a gift from the football gods when they recovered the famed Watermelon kick against Atlanta. The team capitalized on that onsides gift and went on to defeat the Falcons, 40-39, with a game-winning field goal from kicker Greg Zuerlein.
Good football teams do not require miracles to win football games. The fact that the Cowboys were down by four scores heading in the fourth quarter should tell fans of America’s Team everything they need to know about this football team’s effort thus far.
This time, despite the points put up by the Cowboys’ offense, the predictable happened. The team failed to defy the odds. The Cowboys lost the game, but perhaps more importantly they have lost the confidence of many of their fans.
The Dallas Cowboys were utterly outmatched and outplayed by the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The Cowboys will play a struggling New York Giants team next Sunday. Let’s just hope that fans of America’s Team are not hoping for another miracle by half-time next week.
