The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Seattle Seahawks. What went wrong?

In a Week 3 matchup, an exciting game was bound to happen between the Dallas Cowboys and the Seattle Seahawks. There were a ton of big plays, but also a ton of mistakes.

The Cowboys ultimately lost, but it was only by one possession. What went wrong for the Dallas Cowboys against the Seahawks?

#1. Man Down

In every sport, unfortunate injuries pop up. For Dallas, they watched as numerous starting names popped up on their injury report.

It all started in training camp with defensive tackle Gerald McCoy suffering a torn quad. This injury had him set to miss the entire season, and resulted in Dallas cutting him using a condition in his contract.

Another tough injury before the season began was to right tackle La’el Collins. Collins’ injury has been followed up by injuries to three backup offensive tackles. They were Mitch Hyatt, Cam Erving, and Wyatt Miller.

Miller and Hyatt were cut before the season began, with Erving being injured in Week 1. To make matters worse, left tackle Tyron Smith has been dealing with a neck injury. This means that the top three starting options and two substitute options at offensive tackle missed Week 3.

Tight end, Blake Jarwin was looking forward to being the starter for his first season. It was cut very short after suffering a torn ACL and he will miss the entire 2020 season as a result.

More injuries can be found on the defensive side of the ball, with linebackers Sean Lee and Leighton Vander Esch being placed on Injured Reserve (IR). While LVE was injured in Week 1, Lee began the season on IR.

The Cowboys’ top cornerback on their depth chart, Chidobe Awuzie, was also sidelined and placed on IR. Alongside him on IR is another cornerback, Anthony Brown.

In total, nine players that would have had a starting role were held out of the game. Four of them were on offense and five of them were on defense.

This would be a tough situation for any team to endure. It is no surprise to see the Cowboys take a severe hit with this many holes on their roster due to injury.
