Dallas Cowboys: Stop stalling and call these 4 free agents
Earl Thomas, Safety
This dance has gone on long enough. Cowboys’ owner and general manager Jerry Jones continues to reassure fans he knows the name, Earl Thomas. Yet, the team is unwilling to make the move … or at least has been up to this point.
Perhaps things in Dallas haven’t gotten bad enough for the Cowboys to commit to Thomas and all he brings with him, both good and bad. But anyone following America’s Team for even the smallest amount of time knows this is an organization that loves to drag their collective feet. And 2020 is no different.
Everyone … and I mean everyone knows that Thomas would make the secondary instantly better in Dallas. We are talking about a seven-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl winner here. And despite being 31-years old plus coming off controversial departures from two other NFL teams, Thomas is unquestionably a massive upgrade to both Woods and Thompson.
So, why are the Cowboys stalling? Here’s how Jerry Jones addressed the current secondary issues in a recent interview with 105.3 The Fan’s Shan & RJ as only he can …
"“Well, I think the fair question is do I want us to play better? And the answer is yes. Do I see that we’ve got a path to getting better without doing something that is out of our control, which is acquiring a player, that’s not necessarily in your control at all. The circumstances or the demands might be something you don’t want to do.”"
Jones would go on to assure fans those issues are being addressed. But he also indicated that a change of personnel wouldn’t necessarily solve the problems in the secondary. In particular, any mental mistakes. Instead, an adjustment in the gameplan might be the better solution.
There are clearly a lot of discussions happening right now with the Cowboys internally. And the fact Earl Thomas recently received heavy interest from the Houston Texans and then was subsequently passed on could actually hasten a union between the Cowboys and the veteran safety. That’s if the front office and coaching staff are finally willing to admit that they actually need him.
