If the Dallas Cowboys defensive backfield is up to the challenge, they should have a great chance to get a victory on Sunday.

The last thing, I promise. That’s where our defensive backfield will thrive.

After looking at the Cowboys secondary for the first two weeks, these physical matchups is where they thrive. If you plan to try and beat the Cowboys DB’s with physical traits and ability, I like our chances.

They might not get the best of you, but you shouldn’t get the best of them either. They excell when the other team’s pass catcher’s try to make it a physical or athletic ability game.

Receivers like Michael Thomas, Robert Woods, Adam Thielen, Cooper Kupp, and/or their very own Amari Cooper are the ones that give them issues. They are not only receivers with decent size, but they are great tacticians and route runners.

Being of good size doesn’t mean overly physical, but it does mean that after they make you look silly with their technique and route running, they can go and make a play on the ball with their size and length.

The Cowboys secondary will struggle with receivers who can run clean, crisp, and pure routes. It has seemed that way over the first two weeks.

Julio Jones is Julio Jones, so we will leave that there and even though he was a bit gimpy last week, the Cowboys had a bigger problem with Calvin Ridley than they did him. Julio is an all around great pass catcher, but he relies on that 6-3 frame, his strong build, and that 4.4 speed to be his best self.

Yes, Calvin Ridley is 6-1 and pushing 200lbs, so not the smallest guy but his superpower is his route running ability and hands. He can cut, flip his hips, or shift a defender out of his socks before then making an insane grab.

All in all, this is what the point is. If a wide receiver plans to try physically dominating the Cowboys secondary, they are in for a rude awakening and a long day. If a receiver can run impeccable routes, they will score a ton.

It’s really seemed that simple over the first two weeks. That’s also why when talking this week’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, the Dallas Cowboys defensive backfield gives me hope.
