Cowboys Team Need: Defensive Tackle

After allowing 153 rushing yards and two touchdowns to the Los Angeles Rams in Week One, the Cowboys’ run defense held the Atlanta Falcons to 113 rushing yards and no scores on the ground on Sunday. Still, the Dallas defense did allow the Falcons to put up 39 points.

While early turnovers by the Cowboys offense did them no favors, the defense in Dallas is still a major concern. So is the interior of their defensive line. And the team is set to face a Seattle Seahawks’ rushing attack that ranked fourth in the NFL last season averaging 137.5 yards a game.

Therefore, I don’t believe it would be unwise to add another stout run defender in the middle of that line. And defensive tackle Damon Harrison is the best run-stuffer available.

After a midseason trade to the Detroit Lions in 2018, Damon “Snacks” Harrison elevated a struggling Matt Patricia-led defense to becoming the 10th best defensive unit in the NFL by season’s end.

Unfortunately, the 31-year old Harrison struggled to stay healthy last season and parted ways with Detroit earlier this year. As the top defensive tackle available in free agency, he should already be on the Cowboys’ radar.

And consider this: Damon Harrison lives in the DFW area already. So, like quarterback Andy Dalton before him, signing with the Dallas Cowboys would allow him to stay near his family during these difficult and uncertain times and still play football.
