6 free agents that still make sense for the Cowboys to consider

Cowboys Team Need: Offensive Line

The Cowboys clearly need more experience at the offensive tackle position right now. After all, the starting tackles for Dallas against the Falcons on Sunday were Terence Steele and Brandon Knight for goodness’ sake.

Dallas reportedly offered free-agent offensive tackle Jared Veldheer a one-year, $2.5 million contract recently. But the 10-year veteran opted instead to retire at the age of 33 after working out for the team last week.

Dallas is still in dire need for veteran help along their offensive line. Here are two possible free agents the Cowboys could consider …

Free Agent: Cordy Glenn, OT

Cordy Glenn is likely the top offensive tackle currently available in free agency. Having just turned 31-years old, the former second-round selection by the Buffalo Bills in 2012 has struggled to stay healthy over the past four seasons. But that fact makes him ideal as a reserve and for spot starting duty in Dallas.

As a member of the Cincinnati Bengals, Glenn blocked for current Cowboys’ backup quarterback Andy Dalton for the past two seasons. The eight-year veteran has started in a total of 95 NFL games over his pro career.

Free Agent: Ronald Leary, OG

The Cowboys have already brought Ronald Leary in for a workout recently, according to several reports. And the former 35-game starter at left guard in Dallas would presumably play the same position if signed. This would allow starter Connor Williams to shift to offensive tackle.

The 31-year old Leary started 12 games for the Denver Broncos last season. His addition could add some much-needed stability to the offensive line in Dallas. Unfortunately, it appears the current deal has fallen through. Perhaps they’ll revisit adding Leary at some point soon.
