The Coaching

The Coaching just barely fell into place. Mike McCarthy… Mike McCarthy… Mike McCarthy… just what in the hello are you thinking out there sometimes?

I get it, that’s the reputation you’ve built, a wild west style gambler on playcalling, but here’s the thing, when you haven’t won a game and especially after losing the way you did in Week One, you have to become bit more reserved.

I have no problem with being aggressive on one punt called fake punt attempt. The problem I have is this, you can’t run it twice in the same game and especially not so close together.

Again, the players and coaches on the other side of the ball get paid too. Mike McCarthy has to know better than that. That was just one specific example.

Listen, if the Cowboys lose Sunday’s game, McCarthy is likely on the hot seatseriously. That’s just the pressure cooker that is professional sports, the NFL, and especially with the Dallas Cowboys.

You can lose games, as that’s what happens in pro sports, but you can’t lose them the way he was setting up to do on Sunday. He needs to thank his lucky Dak Prescotts.

That, two timely plays from his kicker, and a big stop or two from his defense is the only reason he wasn’t hearing “is Mike McCarthy long for Dallas” this morning. He is still under the microscope, as he has been below average in his first two weeks and that’s being generous.

We will be keeping an eye on McCarthy moving forward, because he needs to be better.

The Dallas Cowboys have this week to get ready for one of the only remaining 2-0 teams in the league on Sunday. They will face off against Seattle in an evening game next Sunday.

That will be a true test of how far they have been able to come in two weeks. Hopefully, it won’t take a last-second Dak Prescott and Greg Zuerlein heroics to pull it out. But then again, hopefully, we’re close enough in the end where a field goal can save us.
