Social media exploded following the Dallas Cowboys’ last-second win over Atlanta

Down 29-10 at halftime, the Dallas Cowboys appeared doomed to lose their second-straight game of the regular season under new head coach Mike McCarthy. This after four first-quarter fumbles resulted in the Atlanta Falcons taking an early 20-point lead.

And while the Cowboys offense was able to make up for their early mishaps, the Dallas defense continued to struggle. Falcons’ quarterback Matt Ryan would finish the game throwing for 273 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions while completing 24 of his 36 passes.

Ryan’s favorite target? Former first-round wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who posted seven receptions for 109 yards and two touchdowns while routinely beating the Cowboys’ secondary.

Fortunately, Dallas was able to generate a lot of offense as well with quarterback Dak Prescott rushing for three touchdowns while throwing for 450 passing yards and another score. Both wide receiver Amari Cooper and rookie CeeDee Lamb finished with over 100 receiving yards each.

Tight end Dalton Schultz posted a career day, recording nine receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown. Running back Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 89 yards and a score while averaging 4.0 yards per carry. Zeke had six receptions for 33 yards but was also responsible for two early fumbles.

Defensively, the Cowboys struggled to get pressure on Ryan all game long. Defensive end Everson Griffen recorded the only sack for Dallas. While linebackers Jaylon Smith and Joe Thomas combined for a total of 25 tackles.

In the end, it was special teams that made the difference. Down to the Falcons 39-30 with less than two minutes left in the game, Prescott would score on a one-yard touchdown run. After the successful extra point made the score 39-37, the Cowboys would get the ball back on an unlikely onsides kick by kicker Greg Zuerlein.

And it was Zuerlein who would boot the 46-yard game-winning field goal with no time left on the clock to seal the Cowboys come from behind victory over the Falcons, 40-39. Following the game, fans, media members, and players alike took to Twitter to express their feelings. We’ve included some of those tweets below.
