Do these weird trends favor the Dallas Cowboys in 2020?
What are some trends that may favor the Dallas Cowboys this season?
After a very tough matchup in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams, the Dallas Cowboys start the season 0-1. What if I told you that this could be a good thing?
I’m not that superstitious, I’m just a little stitious … I sincerely hope you understand this reference. If not, well then it was worth a try.
Anyway, losing is almost always looked at as a bad thing unless you are a fan of the Miami Dolphins or Cleveland Browns. So, why on Earth would a loss in Week 1 be a good thing for the Dallas Cowboys?
Well, the last three times the Dallas Cowboys were in the playoffs, they lost in Week 1. Another odd trend is that this happened every second year since 2014. Both of those trends are active this season, and it should get superstitious Cowboys fans excited.
Does this mean that Dallas is 100%, without a doubt, for sure going to make the playoffs? Absolutely … not.
While it doesn’t mean anything until the playoffs are determined, it is something fun to keep in mind. I’m a Cowboys fan that looks for every edge to back up why they will make it this year.
You have to admit, both are a weird trend to have. Is there a reason why things have panned out this way? Let’s take a look.
Why might these trends happen?
Maybe (just maybe) the Cowboys get too comfortable when things are going well? Losing in Week 1 or coming off a disappointing season can be looked at as a wake-up call. Some players thrive off being the underdog or with a chip on their shoulder.
While I certainly don’t believe this, what if owner Jerry Jones is having his team compete every two years on purpose? In barely missing the playoffs, he can get a good evaluation of what he has in front of him, and a better draft pick.

With this logic, he is somewhat tanking to draft better players, which will keep the team competitive longer. Look at it as a half tank. But then again, wouldn’t they be better off tanking for real and getting a better pick?
Is it a reach? Without a doubt.
Is it possible? Nothing is known for sure with Jerry Jones.
If you didn’t know about the two trends listed above, well … now you know. You can take it with a grain of salt, or you can use it to get you more excited. I’m taking the route where I’m more excited now, risking more disappointment later down the road.
