Dallas Cowboys: 3 things from Week 1 to polish up heading into Week 2
The Dallas Cowboys know who and what Ezekiel Elliott is. They need to act like it.
More Zeke
Look, this one is pretty straightforward as well and although it may seem like he got a ton of work Sunday, which he did, there’s more meat on that bone.
The Dallas Cowboys ran 69 plays on Sunday. Out of those 69, 39 of them were passing plays.
27 of those plays were rushing attempts. Out of those 27 attempts, 22 of them were for Ezekiel Elliott.
While having more than a third of the offensive plays called for you seems like a plenty for one guy and especially a running back, when you have Ezekiel Elliott going like that, you feed him.
I am not sure of the proper ratio or percentage of anything like that, but I know this, I would try to get as close to a 50/50 split as I could or as much and as close to that as he can physically handle. It would be half Zeke touches and half everyone else if he’s going like he was at times on Sunday.
We all remember the touchdown play that saw him set up three separate Rams defenders at the same time along the sideline, only to jump-cut five yards back inside on a dime, leading to a touchdown. We all saw him do what he does, which is to take a running play that should be for negative or no yards and turn it into a 10-yard gainer.
That’s what Ezekiel Elliott does. That’s what he’s always done for the most part.
We know you are new here Mr. McCarthy, but meet Ezekiel Elliott. He’s a beast.
Give him the ball. That’s all.
Again and plainly put, we need to see more Zeke. This is especially when he’s going like that and especially when the defense is putting so much pressure on the passer.
The Dallas Cowboys still have to go out on Sunday and execute. All of this is fine, dandy, and true as true gets, but if they don’t go out and play like they are a 0-1 team, they will leave the field 0-2.
The Atlanta Falcons were lambasted by the Seattle Seahawks in Week One, to a tune of 38-25, so they are probably looking to come out and vent a bit. The Cowboys need not let themselves be a high priced stress ball.
Polishing up these three things a bit will go a long way towards ensuring that isn’t the case. And I know, we can’t wait to see it all play out.
