Following Sunday’s loss to the Rams, here are four free agents the Dallas Cowboys should call

On Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys got a taste of reality following their 20-17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. While the Cowboys appear to be a team that should dominate the NFC on paper, the introduction of several new faces combined with a stunted offseason training program has taken its toll.

Throw in suffering several key injuries during the game and suddenly the 0-1 Cowboys don’t appear to be the preseason juggernaut we thought they were. Yet, it was only the first game and Dallas will quickly get a chance to right the ship. But that doesn’t mean the team couldn’t use a few more hands to help them do so.

Following Sunday night’s wake up call, here are four free-agent names we believe Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones should get on the phone with right now.

Earl Thomas, Safety

If Sunday’s game against the Rams is any indication, the Cowboys’ secondary is going to have a rough go of it this season. So adding a future Hall of Fame safety to the mix seems like a no-brainer.

And at some point, the potential rewards outweigh the risks. Perhaps that point is today. Earl Thomas is undoubtedly the top free agent available on the open market. And his desire to play in Dallas is well known.

But there’s also a reason the former Super Bowl winner and seven-time Pro Bowl safety is currently untethered. Following his release last month from the Baltimore Ravens after an altercation with a teammate, the market for the 31-year old seems to be non-existent. All but in Dallas where Jerry Jones appears to be leaving the door cracked open for a potential union.

Unless the Cowboys truly believe the starting safety duo of Xavier Woods and Darian Thompson can led this team to the Promised Land, it might be time for E.T. to finally phone home.
