Should Dallas Cowboys Dak Prescott’s mental health issue concern you about his ability to succeed?

That goes for Dak Prescott or anyone else, for that matter, to be ok as a thriving, functioning, mentally healthy person in society. With that clarity though, does it bother you as the fan of the team that Dak is in charge of leading down the field each and every week to score points, which ultimately is what it takes to win games.

That goes double in this particular iteration of the league or era of NFL football. If you can’t score the ball, winning becomes exponentially harder.

Does the fact that the guy in charge of picking apart these complicated, layered, nuanced defensive schematics has admitted to needing help unpacking and/or sifting through what he has going on in his mind?

Now, mind you and even more so than his physical abilities and gifts, this is the very thing that will be as critically important as anything when it comes to his chances of success.

Again, does or should this concern you as a fan of the team he’s leading? Nope.

Mental health situations are just like any other injury, it’s actually pretty common. Often times we just don’t know. I’m no one’s shrink (although with an educational background in psychology), but the fact that he was aware and actually sought help is a sign of both how aware he is and why you shouldn’t be concerned.

That means that he knew an issue was happening, he could feel how it was impacting him, he didn’t mind sharing it, and that he wanted to fix it. That all means that he wasn’t outright letting it get the best of him.
