Defensive Front Must Pressure The Opposing Quarterback

The Dallas Cowboys had a mega unit up front, but after losing Gerald McCoy to an injury, it took a slight hit. While again, that was a hit, they do still have more than enough talent on that defensive front line unit to get after the passer.

With a unit that features DeMarcus Lawrence, Everson Griffen, the resurging Aldon Smith, Dontari Poe, and possibly still even Randy Gregory, just to name a few, they should definitely be able to create havoc for opposing offenses.

Throw in the fact that both Leighton Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith can rush the passer via the blitz, then you have a potentially destructive pass rush on your hands. They must show and prove though.

It all looks good on paper, but in order for this team to have success as a whole, the front of the defense must get after the opposing quarterback. It will not only give their offense more bites at the offensive apple, but it will also help the back of that defense do their jobs more effectively.

Although I believe it is a more talented unit across the board on that backside, whether that be due to more experience for returning players or the addition of guys, some would say they are a weaker unit than even last year’s that was headed by the now-departed Byron Jones. With either being the case, a nasty pass rush would go a long way towards helping them out and ultimate success for these Cowboys this year.
