The Dallas Cowboys have already begun cutting down their roster to the final 53

The Dallas Cowboys, along with every other NFL team, faces the difficult task of cutting down their 80-man rosters to a mere 53 players by this Saturday. That according to NFL mandated rules. The Cowboys have decided to get a bit of a head start.

On Wednesday, it’s being widely reported that the Cowboys have parted ways with several of their players already. And expect those reports to keep trickling in over the next couple days as Dallas continues to trim down their roster for the weekend.

Here’s a list of the Cowboys’ players already waived/released according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

The biggest surprise from the above list is likely Devin Smith. The speedster played four games last season, recording five receptions on nine targets for 113 yards and a touchdown.

Smith averaged 22.6 yards per catch and was believed to be the team’s fastest receiver. But the fact the former second-rounder offers next-to-no special teams value likely sealed his fate.

Another name to watch is Adam Redmond. The versatile interior lineman played 10 games for the Cowboys in 2018 under former head coach Jason Garrett. Now that Garrett is the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants, the Big Apple could be a potential landing spot for Redmond.

The Dallas Cowboys’ tight end depth chart gets a bit thinner with the release of Charlie Taumoepeau. The trio of Blake Jarwin, Dalton Schultz, and Blake Bell figure to be locks for the final roster at this point. That gives rookie Sean McKeon and Cole Hikutini the next couple days to prove their worth.
