#5. The Cowboys found themselves a Pro Bowl kicker

For seven years, the Cowboys benefited from having one of the most consistent offensive weapons in the NFL in kicker Dan Bailey. But in the summer of 2018, Dallas did the unthinkable and released Bailey for a cheaper option in Brett Maher.

And while Maher, a then 28-year old rookie who had earned his bones in the CFL, possessed a much stronger leg than Bailey, he lacked consistency. And that would ultimately end his run in Dallas, with the Cowboys cutting ties with Maher last December.

And while Dallas seemed to find a suitable replacement in Kai Forbath, the hiring of a new special teams coordinator in John Fassel ended up opening the door to the Cowboys signing former 2017 Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro kicker, Greg Zuerlein.

Dallas released Forbath earlier this month, handing Zuerlein the starting role. And despite struggling last season due to injury, the 32-year old kicker has been perfect at training camp. Going an incredible 24 of 24 in field goal attempts through last Thursday seems to indicate the Cowboys, in fact, landed themselves a Pro Bowl-level kicker in free agency.
