#4. Trevon Diggs a potential starter despite no OTAs, minicamp, or preseason?

The Cowboys lost Pro Bowl cornerback Byron Jones in the offseason to free agency. In response, Dallas drafted Alabama corner Trevon Diggs in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

But the Cowboys also possess a solid foundation of veterans to allow the rookie time to grow. Especially considering the lack of a true offseason training program putting every new player on the roster behind the eight ball.

Dallas has a trio of experienced starters at cornerback in Chidobe Awuzie, Anthony Brown, and Jourdan Lewis who could kick off Week One. The Cowboys also added another veteran to that group in Daryl Worley through free agency this offseason.

But injuries during training camp have allowed Diggs to get some extra reps. And the younger brother of Buffalo Bills’ wide receiver Stefon Diggs seems to be making the most of that opportunity.

Seemingly growing more every single practice, and working closely with new defensive backs coach and former two-time Pro Bowl cornerback himself Al Harris, Diggs has been earning a significant amount of praise as training camp has progressed.

And at this point, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear he’s put himself in contention to actually get the starting nod in Week One. But even if he doesn’t start against the Rams, expect Diggs to have a major role regardless and potentially earn that starting gig before the season is over.
