The pressure is on Dak Prescott to achieve a deep playoff run this season

With Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott playing on the franchise tag in 2020, he faces pressure to earn a high-paying long-term deal. He must do this by achieving a deep playoff run. With great talent and new coaching heading into the season, anything except a conference championship appearance would seem like a bust for the 2020 season.

In 2019 Prescott had the best statistical season of his NFL career. He had 4,902 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns, and 11 interceptions on a 65.1% completion percentage. However, while doing this, the Cowboys could not win the weak NFC East and finished with a mediocre 8-8 record.

While the 8-8 record was disappointing given the very talented roster in 2019, it is hard to put much of the blame on Prescott after having a stellar season. With that being said, it is time for Prescott to be the franchise-quarterback he intends to be paid like, and bring the Cowboys to at least a conference championship in the 2020 season.

Why 2020 is conference championship appearance or bust

The Cowboys have arguably the most all-around talented team in the NFL heading into the upcoming season. Prescott has weapons all over the offense to work with, including elite running back Ezekiel Elliott, and three young talented wide receivers in Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and rookie CeeDee Lamb.

The defensive side of the ball features an elite front-seven filled with pass-rushing talent, and versatility in the back-end to cause pressure and confusion on the defense.

The Cowboys have let many talented teams go to waste since 1996, the last year the team made the Super Bowl. Many recent years have been seen by many as a let-down in the postseason due to coaching.

Now with an experienced coaching staff run by former Super Bowl winner Mike McCarthy, the pressure falls on Dak Prescott to become the winning NFL quarterback by delivering a successful season in 2020.
